Our Story
The Birth of dadbed
In the spring of 2024, Matt and Mary found themselves facing an unexpected and challenging situation. Mary, who was only 30 weeks pregnant with their first child, suddenly had her water break. This meant an immediate and prolonged stay at the hospital. As any new parent can attest, those first nights were filled with anxiety and sleeplessness. For Matt, it quickly became evident that the standard accommodations for dads in hospitals were far from ideal.
The experience of trying to support his wife while managing on minimal, uncomfortable sleep led Matt to a realization. Running into dads at the coffee station, they shared the same challenges with their sleeping arrangements. Every nurse they spoke with confirmed that the dads #1 issue was getting a good night sleep due to the lack of support and comfort of the hospital chair setup. Determined to find a better solution, Matt set to work on developing a prototype for what would become the dadbed.
Founders with a Mission
Matt and Mary, driven by their personal ordeal and a clear need they discovered, founded dadbed with a simple yet profound mission: to help dads get the best night's sleep possible while staying overnight at the hospital, so they can be fully energized and supportive for their partners. Their goal is to enhance the overall hospital experience for new parents by ensuring that fathers are well-rested and able to provide the support their families need.
Our Commitment
dadbed is not just a product; it embodies a commitment to comfort and care. After 27 days spent in the hospital, Matt had the unique opportunity to test various designs and prototypes, refining dadbed to be the most universal and effective solution for fathers staying overnight in hospitals. The result is a bed that caters to the specific needs of expecting fathers, but it also proves invaluable for any support person needing rest while caring for a loved one in the hospital.
Giving Back
Inspired by the exceptional care and support they received from the nursing team, Matt and Mary integrated a social mission into their business. For every dadbed purchased, a donation is made to the hospital of the buyer's choice. This initiative allows dadbed to give back to the healthcare community that provides such crucial support during life’s most critical moments.
A Tribute to Our Journey
In homage to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, where their daughter was born and where they experienced world-class care, dadbed's logo proudly features the hospital's colors. This choice symbolizes their gratitude and the deep connection to the place that played such a vital role in their story.
Looking Ahead
As dadbed continues to grow, Matt and Mary remain committed to their original mission: improving the hospital experience for dads (and all support persons) around the world. Their journey from a challenging personal experience to creating a solution that benefits countless others is a testament to their dedication, resilience, and passion for making a difference.
